I'd love to get rid of my files but there are important files in them.

The challenge is to find the time to give teachers to do the necessary hauling of the cabinets away and replacing them with more interesting and engaging activities.

Technology is the rational answer. If you can't find something on here that can make your class more relevant, you're just not looking.

The teacher video, a great wake up call for anyone who has stopped evolving as a professional.

Last year I moved my file cabinets from one corner of the room to another. Along the way I downsized to only 2 cabinets! The third now sits empty, and as soon as I figure out how to remove such a large item from my room inventory list it will be gone. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to take a break from all this technology. Signing up for a google account so I could post this blog (at least I think that's what I did) sapped most of my brainpower.

Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. What will we need to do in 5 years, or 7?

I rely way too much on my files. I am always trying to downsize but then the old "I may need that sometime" comes to mind. For some reason, the hard copy seems more reliable but the technology makes it more compact and convenient.

Obviously we can't just pitch everything, but the more we can MOVE to electronic files, the easier it can be manipulated.

Good comments!

I am doing IEP's online but I still have to make a hard copy for my files and the AEA's. For now I'll keep my files cabinets.

I fully agree with the idea that "When you are done learning, you are done." That quote certainly applies to good teaching as well as any other endeavor. I do get tired of people telling me we continually need to reinvent education. What if I told an historian to burn the books because I am not interested in learning from other's past mistakes? What if I suggested that a farmer throw away all of his records of the past 40 years and start fresh? While he is at it forget everything that we learned about agriculture from the American Indians, the Mayan farmers and the Egyptians. Change is good but I get tired of young revolutionaries that see the answer clearly before they understand the question!
